Dussehra — Vijayadashami — is the tenth day, when the nine nights of Navratri end in victory: Lord Ram’s over Ravan and Maa Durga’s over Mahishasura. In the north it ends with Ravan’s effigy going up in flames after the Ram Lila; in Maharashtra people exchange apta leaves as "gold"; Mysuru’s Dasara procession fills the streets; in many homes tools and books are worshipped for the year ahead. It is a day for new beginnings, which makes it a good day for a message.
Pick the victory you mean
"Good over evil" is on every Dussehra card. A message lands when you make it specific: wish someone victory over the thing they are actually fighting — an exam, a job hunt, an illness, a long commute. "May this Dussehra see the end of your Ravan-sized to-do list" is funnier, and truer, than another generic blessing.
Dasara, Vijayadashami, Dussehra — use their word
The day has many names. In Maharashtra it is Dasara, and "sona ghya, sonyasarkha raha" — take gold, stay golden — goes with the apta leaves. In Karnataka it is Mysuru Dasara, in Bengal it is Bijoya Dashami after Durga Puja, in Himachal the week-long Kullu Dussehra.
