Navratri is nine nights for the nine forms of Maa Durga, from Shailaputri on the first night to Siddhidatri on the ninth. Every region keeps it its own way — fasting and akhand jyoti in the north, garba and dandiya until midnight in Gujarat, Durga Puja pandals in Bengal, golu dolls on the steps in the south. A good Navratri wish sounds like the Navratri the other person actually celebrates.
Match the message to their Navratri
For someone keeping the fast, wish them strength and a smooth vrat, not a feast. For a garba lover, mention the dandiya nights. For a Bengali friend it is Durga Puja — "Shubho Sharodiya" before Ashtami and "Shubho Bijoya" on Dashami. For a family celebrating golu, ask what they added to the steps this year. The same "Happy Navratri" reads very differently to each of them.
Nine nights, more than one message
Navratri is long enough for a follow-up. Send the main wish on the first day, then a short second one on Ashtami or Navami, when many families do kanya puja and feed young girls as forms of the Devi. A line on the right day shows you are following along with them, not just ticking a box on day one.
